Heart care from prevention to complex coronary intervention

Dr. Azhar ul Hassan Qureshi is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and Senior Registrar Cardiology at Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology. After his MBBS, he completed FCPS in Cardiology followed by advanced fellowship training in Interventional Cardiology, and he has more than 10 years of professional medical and cardiology experience.

His work includes coronary angiography, angioplasty and stenting, primary PCI for heart attack and complex coronary intervention, alongside the long-term care of high blood pressure, cholesterol disorders and heart failure. He has a particular interest in identifying and preventing heart disease early, especially in younger adults.

Chest discomfort on exertion

Pressure, tightness or pain in the chest when walking, climbing stairs or under stress can be a sign of narrowed heart arteries.

High blood pressure

Blood pressure that is raised, difficult to control, or worrying you on home readings.

High cholesterol or a family history

Raised cholesterol, or a parent or sibling who developed heart disease at a young age.

Breathlessness, swelling or tiredness

Becoming breathless more easily, ankle swelling or unusual tiredness can be signs of heart failure.

After a heart attack or stent

Follow-up, medicines and risk-factor control to protect your heart for the long term.

South Asian populations, including people of Pakistani origin, tend to develop coronary artery disease at a younger age than many other populations.¹ Dr. Qureshi has a particular interest in identifying cardiovascular risk early, so that heart disease in younger adults can be prevented, or found and treated in time.
